SafeTALK “Suicide Alertness for Everyone” workshop:

At this workshop, learn how to provide basic and practical help to persons with thoughts of suicide. It prepares you to be a suicide alert helper and provides you with the awareness that opportunities to help someone at risk are often missed, dismissed and avoided. It also teaches you the awareness of TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and Keep-safe) and the ability to activate a suicide alert.

This course is designed to give coaches, volunteers, development officers etc. ideas and inspiration to adapt their physical activity & sports sessions to include people with disabilities. All bookings are taken online at http://caracentre.ie/disability-inclusion-training-online-booking/

The course costs €45.

This is a programme which links physical activity with positive mental well-being. The aims are to educate sport and physical activity organisations and provide training in the area of mental well being through ‘SafeTALK “Suicide Alertness for Everyone”, ASIST ‘Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, Peer Support and Self Advocacy Training and WRAP (Wellness, Recovery, Action, Planning). It also aims to increase awareness of the resources available and encourage the people of Tipperary to be proactive in protecting and maintaining their well being.

This is a programme aimed at increasing participation levels in physical activity among the Traveller Community. Tipperary Sports Partnership links with NTLP, Tipperary ETB and Tipperary Rural Traveller Programme to deliver this programme.

Link 2 B Active offers discounted rates for physical activity opportunities within certain sports facilities in Tipperary. The programme is for all recipients of social welfare payments. Once eligibility is confirmed , applicants are issued with a Link 2B Active card which is valid for 3 months at a time.

This is an Education Initiative for Jobseekers in Tipperary. It is a 14 week programme where 12 job seekers on social welfare payments are assisted to gain employment, coaching , volunteering and further education opportunities in the sports sector for example as coaches, referees, physical activity leaders etc. The programme will provide participants with practical and theoretical sport-related skills and help them find relevant work experience in their local community.

The Disability Programme of activities aim to increase participation levels in Sport and Physical activity for People with a Disability in Tipperary.
Current Programmes in the County include: Boccia League, Inclusive Swim Programme, Sportsability Clubs, Tennis 4 All, Football for All, Disability Inclusion Training, Sailability Programme and St.Annes Special School Activity Sessions.

Go for Life is an Age and Opportunity initiativefunded by the ISC. The Go for Life team at Age and Opportunity administer the programme, working in partnership with the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the LSPs. There are two Go for Life programmes:

Sports Participation Programme

Aims to increase participation rates in sport by older people. Leaders are trained locally through the LSP network, and they in turn promote participation in sport among older people in their communities.

Physical Activity Leaders (PAL)

Sports Ireland changed the structure of Child Welfare & Protection (Code of Ethics) workshops for Clubs. The details of the three stages of training are outlined here as follows:

1. Safeguarding 1 - Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course

All Coaches, Children’s Officers and Designated Liaison Persons (DLP) must first complete the 3 hour Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course. This course educates participants on the implementation of best practice in protecting the welfare of children involved in sport.
